New York, September 8, 2025 – Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and recording artist Minna LaFortune has officially submitted her latest album, Dance with Me, Vol. II, for consideration in the Best Reggae Album Category at the 68th GRAMMY® Awards, set to take place in Los Angeles, CA on February 1, 2026.

The album, released on June 7, 2025, is devoted to social consciousness and the celebration of life. Blending reggae, afrobeat, dancehall, and amapiano, LaFortune creates a dynamic soundscape that carries messages of peace, unity, and social justice. With her emotive voice and captivating rhythms, she delivers an unforgettable listening experience that uplifts while raising awareness of important global issues.

Critics have praised the project’s depth and originality. Among the album’s standout tracks are “Cease Fire,” and “Global Warming” which LaFortune have submitted for Best Global Music Performance as well as Best Song for Social Change respectively. “Cease Fire,” a powerful track draws attention to the urgent issue of urban violence, addressing tragedies in “New York, Haiti, Trinidad, and Soweto.” Over a modern “new roots” reggae foundation fused with hip-hop elements, LaFortune sings: “Too many young people lose their lives in their teens, in their twenties, caught in a cycle of death and violence.” On the other hand “Global Warming” seeks to remind the world of their role in reversing global warming and protecting the planet.

About Minna LaFortune

Minna LaFortune was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and now calls Brooklyn, New York home. Classically trained at Ardenne High School under the late Dr. Noel Dexter, OD, she went on to perform with the Diocesan Festival Choir and the Methodist Chorale before launching her solo career. In 1975, she won the soprano soloist Bronze Medal at the Jamaica National Music Competition for schools, marking the early recognition of her talent.

Her musical influences span reggae icons such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Marcia Griffiths, alongside jazz and soul legends like Nancy Wilson and Aretha Franklin. In 2023, she released her debut album, Dance with Me, Vol. I, followed by the festive Caribbean Christmas. With Dance with Me, Vol. II, LaFortune continues her journey of blending genres and voices to create music that resonates with global audiences.

Beyond music, she is the co-founder and President of the Society for the Advancement of the Caribbean Diaspora (SACD) and founder of the Afro Carib-A Singers. She has also contributed authentic Caribbean recipes to media outlets including NewsAmericaNow.com, Caribbean News Weekly, and WiredJa, and plans to publish a book uniting her poetry with her culinary creations.
